there is a break-in period required to soften the leather at the bulbs and around the collar of your horse’s new boots. Like your own riding boots, it is recommended that time is taken to gradually break-in your boots. On the first day the boots should be worn for 20-30 minutes, during turn-out or riding. The next day, you can increase the time and so on. Horse’s hoofs, skin thickness, bulb sensitivity and conditioning can vary, so please monitor the wear and increase time in the boots as appropriate. You can speed up the break-in process by using a leather softener of your choice and/or riding through water.
Measuring Tips
Make sure to measure after a fresh trim!
The weight-bearing LENGTH most often indicates the size necessary. Take hoof WIDTH measurements as well, since that helps to confirm that you have chosen the correct size and sole shape for your horse. FOR WIDE HOOVES: If your horses hoof width measurement is greater than the hoof length measurement you will need to choose your horse’s Cavallo boot size in the Regular sole shape based on the hoof width measurement.
Please measure each hoof, as they may differ – requiring different sized boots
Only new, UNUSED boots can be exchanged. To keep the boot clean, we suggest covering the hoof with thin plastic and checking fit on a non-scuff (not gravel), clean, dry surface. To be certain about your fit, please follow the test shown in the video below BEFORE using your boots
Make sure to place the ‘zero’ point of your tape measure at the tip of the toe when measuring your length
